There is supposed to be an ugly sweater contest at Thanksgiving. I went to three thrift stores this morning with the sole intention of finding the two ugliest sweaters out there. To my surprise and dismay there were none. NONE! Where did they all go? If not thrift shops, where?? I guess my next stop is Walmart.
Outdoors is cold, dreary and wet. The wind gusts so hard at times the trees bend over. I made a breakfast of bacon, pancakes, eggs and orange juice that we ate by the window in the sunroom. After cleaning up the kitchen I stepped into my studio. I started at the art table sketching and painting which ended with a finished piece. I cleaned up my space, washed paint brushes and made ready for the next time. I'm finding that taking the time to leave my art area cleaned up leads to a lot more art sessions. No mess to clean before beginning next time because that is a drag. A time consuming drag that saps your creative process.
It's a perfect afternoon to curl up with a good book. And I happen to have 3 new ones I'm excited about. This will be my next several hours. I know I need to makes lists and organize some things in the next week. We are hosting a Thanksgiving gathering. All my husbands siblings and a niece will be arriving from out of state the week of Thanksgiving. Some staying here, some getting hotel rooms. A full house to say the least. We are excited and eager to see everyone. My family was invited as well but aren't coming for various reasons. But then again, they never do. I did not wake up with intentions to set up the Christmas tree. The weather is dull, cold and hinting at rain. Suddenly it just seemed like the thing to do. In my defense, it is more on the rustic side of decor. No Santa, No overdose on Christmas. Just some coziness. And I thought, what the hell, we didn't put up the tree or decorations last year because we travelled over the holiday. It was fun but when we got back home it was dreary and we wished we had lt up to come back to. So I say we deserve the extra couple of weeks this year.
Most people are quite superstitious about Friday the 13th. I grew up with this superstition as well as others like don't walk under a ladder it's bad luck, break a mirror and expect 7 years of bad luck. Don't let a black cat cross your path. I could go on but I won't. I don't believe in any of what I just mentioned! I not only walked under ladders but tried climbing the underside to see if it was possible. You broke a mirror? Use the pieces to make a collage on a wooden fence to reflect a kaleidoscope of light from the sky. This Friday the 13th brought good energy to me. I had been trying to learn a technique and thought it impossible for me to do without guidance. I decided to give it a go. Change my mindset from "I can't" to "I can. Guess what? I did it. The same with a color palette. I couldn't fathom choosing and mixing colors to create what I wanted. Did it. Now I have a new project in the works. Superstitions are fun for conversation but otherwise useless in my opinion. I do however believe in the ability to change how you think to achieve what you desire.
