We moved like zombies, slow motion, life unreal. We moved along as required, as people came and went telling us what we were supposed to be doing, making decisions in a time that our lives felt destroyed. Every step I thought of you. That hasn't changed.
We all trudged through the ensuing years. There were many failing moments. There were also those redeeming times. Loved ones, strangers, your second family (the ones you called brother) who gave support, reached out, were a saving grace.
But when all was said and done our family was broken.
How do you fix that?
Memorial Day is fast approaching, a time when the American flag is suddenly displayed more prominently, waving in the breeze, memorial services and parades being held around the country. Backyard barbeques and the 100th running of the Indy 500.
Let us just remember that Memorial Day is about those brave, sometimes scared heroes who risk(ed) their lives to preserve our rights and freedoms as well as standing up for the down trodden people of other countries.
