Post-election day my friend and I met at nearby lake and explored a new walking path. It was quiet and wound around an inlet , past some homes connecting to a path that crossed the bridge over the reservoir . The sun shining and temperature fair and very few people. Walking and talking we saw a bald eagle lingering on a branch, scouting breakfast perhaps. On the return a wooly caterpillar crossed our path and we had to take a moment to look closer. It had been quite sometime since either of us had seen one. We recalled learning from childhood that they predict how winter will be. This one indicated a beginning with cold and snow, a mild middle ending with a short spell of cold and snow at the end. It was nice to be outdoors and away from the house. She & I need to do this more often.
Ventured to the polls to cast my vote this morning. I wasn't quite sure what to expect in terms of lines, people or emotional atmosphere. Turns out there was no line, no waiting! And there was free parking. This election is the worst I've ever voted in with all the turmoil and unrest, but I do believe it's important for everyone to make their voice heard.
I have a friend that I met approximately 5 years ago when we began working for American Greetings Card Co. as part-time merchandisers. Both of us showing up 15 minutes early and loitering in the card section of Meijers waiting for Karen, the person who was training us. Karen, we learned early on, was always late. I will talk about Karen later as she was interesting and provided us many future conversations but I don't want to digress. About 20 minutes in we spoke to each other and found we were there for the same reason. Sabrina and I did all of our training together and though we had different routes and stores more often than not we ended up working together filling in for others. We were comfortable and at ease with each other which allowed our friendship to grow in a low key manner. Sabrina is quiet, reserved, but has a way of speaking up that I admire. Low key and smart. After a couple years we both left the company but maintained our friendship. It's strange because we don't (never have) hung out regularly. Months can pass without talking. Then we get together and it is like no time has passed. But the times we spend together surprises me by how unaware we are of the passing time. I am social but I don't make friends easily. I don't have that group of girl friends that most women speak of, post pictures of gatherings with, and until today didn't realize that Sabrina is THAT friend that I can take anything to. Just quietly there. Gods Grace
Yesterday was Halloween with a full Blue Moon. I barely caught a glimpse of it. Living in town steals your sunrises and sunsets. All the artificial light often drowns out the night sky so quite often I miss the moon and stars. This upsets my rhythmic pattern and balance I think. I like to believe some of the moonbeams fell on me anyway as we sat by the fire. Blustery winds and time change ushered in November. I am no fan of the cold. Maybe in part because I can't just step out my door and engage in leisure activities without driving some place other. Complaining won't change it and I remind myself to be grateful for all that I have.
